Rats make pretty good pets

Or so I've heard... I think most people have an image of rats as dirty stinking things that live in sewers and eat garbage. Whilst that is probably true of the vast majority of rats, I'm pretty sure that rats bought as pets are entirely different!

They are supposedly quite intelligent (well, relatively - don't expect to hold a conversation with one!) and pretty clean animals.

I think that the reason more people don't buy them as pets is just because of their reputation. Mention to someone that you have pet rats and they are as likely to cringe away in disgust as they are to jump up and down and ask if they can pet them!
