After a tropical storm, we got about 4 or 5 inches of water in the basement, and the substrate in the pens was pretty much ruined - it was starting to grow mould, which is not good. So I've spent a fair amount of my free time over the past couple of months cleaning it all out, painting the wood and generally getting it ready for when they go down there again this winter.
I have an idea of how to prevent the basement flooding again, which basically involves dropping a pump into our outside drain system before any major storm is predicted....
